ReplyDeleteI'm guessing it won't work for glossy surfaces like you'd find on car models for example? I tried 123D Catch on a Audi replica and it failed miserably.
I like that this processes the mesh right on your machine.

glossy surfaces were ok, for example we even tried capturing barbie dolls which where extreemly glossy and everything worked bar the hair
ReplyDeleteJoel, I'm curious as to how you envisioned using this in production. One, of the many, limitations that I found with 123D Catch was that you get the entire model as one Group inside Smoke so you can't for instance texture the tail of your Dino separately from the legs for example.
ReplyDeleteWere you planning on just using these models as background filler? They don't appear to be high res enough to hold up closer to camera without a fair amount of tweaking inside Mudbox, atleast in the case of 123D Catch.
initially because of the low res diffuse map it spits out, i planned to shoot all of the toys and only use the mesh, then set up camera projections sourcing the high res stills, however from my tests lining up the projector cam to the geo that strata made was super problematic even using its lens distortion workflow i still struggled, might just be me :).
